HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/12/08) - Colgate won eight individual events and both relays to beat Bucknell, 174-124, in women's swimming on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Lineberry Natatorium.
Colgate swept the top four spots in the 100 fly, led by freshman Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.), who finished in 57.21. Junior Lisa Marchi (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was second, posting a time of 58.39. Senior Magdalena Mango (New York, N.Y.) came in third in 1:00.03, and sophomore Kate Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) was fourth, finishing in 1:00.13.
The Raiders claimed each of the top three spots in the 100 breast. The effort was led by junior Emily Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.), who won the event in 1:07.86. Senior Kacy Reams (Evanston, Ill.) was second, touching the wall in 1:08.12, while sophomore Caitlin Curran (Alpharetta, Ga.) was third, finishing in 1:08.86.
Colgate also swept the top three spots in the 100 free. Freshman Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.) won the event in a personal-best time of 52.89. Junior Ashley Bottger (Weston, Conn.) was second, touching up in 53.56, and Marchi was third, finishing in 53.80.
Freshman Emily Kelly (Potomac, Md.) won the 500 free in 5:14.02. Bottger finished third in the event, posting a time of 5:21.55. McGraw won the 200 free in 1:54.71, and Marchi was right behind her in second, posting a time of 1:56.85.
Freshman Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) won the 1000 free in a time of 10:38.56. Kelly came in third in the event in 10:51.01. Guyett also won the 200 fly, finishing in 2:10.36, and Kelly was third once again with a time of 2:12.01. In the 200 IM, Guyett was once again the winner, posting a time of 2:12.61. Emily Murphy came in second in the event in 2:13.26.
Colgate opened the meet by edging the Bison in the 200 medley relay with a winning time of 1:49.71, the team's second-best time of the season. At the end of the meet, the Raiders took the top two spots in the 200 free relay with times of 1:39.04 and 1:42.33, respectively.
Junior Beverly Walker (Marietta, Ga.) came in second in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.60, just behind Bucknell's Courtney Warren, who won in 1:00.19.
The Raiders claimed the second, third and fourth spots in the 50 free. Bottger was Colgate's top finisher, posting a time of 25.01. Walker was third, finishing in 25.60, and edging sophomore teammate Kim Siembieda (Narberth, Pa.), who was 0.07 seconds behind her.
Colgate also finished second through fourth in the 200 breast. Curran was second in 2:27.92, just 0.11 seconds behind Bison freshman Macey Keath. Sophomore Alaina Sullivan (Shaker Heights, Ohio) was third in 2:28.71, and Reams was fourth in a season-best time of 2:29.06.
The Raiders are at home again next weekend when they host Cornell on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 12:00 p.m.
