HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/8/07) -
The Colgate University field hockey team began its five-game homestand by getting to .500 on the season with a 2-1 win against Central Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Tyler's Field. The win boosts the Raiders' record to 2-2 overall, while the Chippewas remain winless at 0-4.

Colgate converted a penalty corner at the 12:35 mark to go up 1-0. Senior co-captain Natali Plesniarski (Hamilton, N.Y.) and junior Maddie Watrobski (Penfield, N.Y.) set up junior Lauren Carey (Medfield, Mass.) for the unit's third goal of the season.

Less than three minutes later, Central Michigan tied the game when Samantha Sandham scored on a breakaway from the right side.

As the clocked ticked down to the end of the first half, the Raiders pulled ahead. Senior Lauren Remkus (Miller Place, N.Y.) carried the ball into the left side of the circle, and drew CMU goalie Kahla Schwall's attention. Remkus found sophomore Katelyn Nerbonne (Bow, N.H.) centered in front of the cage, and Nerbonne scored into the open goal.

Colgate sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Pedersen (State College, Pa.) earned her second straight win after making just one save on the night. Schwall finished with four saves as Colgate outshot Central Michigan 10-4, including 7-1 in the first half. The Raiders also earned the edge in penalty corners, 7-6.

Colgate hosts Columbia on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 1:00 p.m., at Tyler's Field. Admission to all Colgate home field hockey games is free.
