No. 14 Northwestern Blanks Colgate, 3-0

 
CHICAGO (8/31/07) – The No. 14 Northwestern University men’s soccer team scored three first-half goals en route to a 3-0 shutout of Colgate University on Friday, Aug. 31 at the Lakeside Classic.
 
David Roth got things started for the Wildcats with a goal in the 21st minute. Piero Bellizzi connected with Matt Eliason who sent a one-step volley to Roth who crossed the ball in near the far post and managed to find the back of the net.
 
Bellizzi picked up his second point when he sent a cross in towards the net were Carl Pette was able to put a foot on it and sneak it past Cappuccio at 34:54.
 
Mark Blades was able to capitalize on an Eamon O’Neill corner kick for the game’s final goal at 40:12.
 
Junior David Cappuccio (Pittsford, N.Y.) made four saves for Colgate, while Misha Rosenthal stopped two shots for Northwestern.
 
Northwestern held a 12-8 advantage in shots, while Colgate had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
 
Colgate (0-1) faces Northern Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 2 in the second day of the Lakeside Classic. Northern Illinois tied Bucknell, 1-1, in today’s earlier game.
