Softball Finishes Regular Season With Win Over Bucknell

Raiders to play Lafayette in opening round of PL Tournament on Thursday.

HAMILTON, N.Y. (5/6/07)LaPorscha Albert (Lewisville, TX) belted her fifth home run of the season and Kelsey Nordstrom (Salina, KS) won her 14th game in the circle to lead Colgate to a 3-1 win over Bucknell Sunday at the Eaton Street Field.
 
Colgate (22-22, PL 12-5) finished the regular season in second place in the Patriot League standings, and will compete for a record 17th straight time in the league tournament May 10-12 at Lehigh University.  The Raiders will open the double-elimination tournament on Thursday against third-seeded Lafayette at 4 p.m. at Kaufman Field.
 
Nordstrom (14-7) pitched her 17th complete game of the season allowing five hits, one run, walking two and striking out five.  Her five strikeouts tie her for second place in career strikeouts with 356.
 
Colgate scored twice in the second inning for a 2-0 lead over the Bison.  With one out, Vicky Ortengren (Colorado Springs, CO) doubled down the right field line, and scored when Whitney Scott (Beaverton, OR) singled through the right side of the infield for her team-high 18th RBI of the season.
 
Scott moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jessi Bentovoja (El Dorado Hills, CA) and then advanced to third on an infield single by Meg Mylan (Upper Montclair, NJ).  Scott scored Colgate’s second run on a wild pitch by Bison starter Christie Wiest.
 
Albert’s home run came when she led off the sixth inning with a shot over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead.  It was Albert’s sixth career homer tying her for sixth place on the all-time list.
 
Bucknell’s lone run came in the seventh inning on a RBI single by Ashley Carlson.  The Bison had the tying runs on base, but Nordstrom got the final two outs on fly balls.
 
Colgate sophomore centerfielder Calla Yee (Salinas, CA) was 2-for-3 with a double.
 
RAIDER NOTEBOOK – Nordstrom is tied for seventh in career wins with 31 … Scott moved into 15th place in career hits (109) and tied for 11th in RBI (58) … Albert is 15th in career runs scored (65) and 18th in hits (104) … Ortengren is Colgate’s leading hitter with .304 average.
