Hyer and Miller Named Intern Athletic Trainers

HAMILTON, N.Y. (5/29/07) – Colgate University’s Coordinator for Sports Medicine Services Marty Erb has announced the hiring of Kristen Hyer and Ashley Miller as intern athletic trainers.
 
Hyer is a 2007 graduate of the State University of New York at Cortland with a Masters degree in teaching, with a concentration in health education.
 
Hyer comes to Colgate after working as a certified athletic trainer at Tully Central Schools, where she worked as the primarily with the men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and men’s lacrosse teams. Hyer also worked as a certified athletic trainer at SUNY Cortland where she worked with the men’s and women’s lacrosse, baseball, and softball teams.
 
“ We are very excited to have Kristen join our staff,” Erb said. “We have had an outstanding history of athletic trainers coming from the SUNY Cortland program, and we expect Kristen will continue that tradition. “
 
Hyer will act as the primary athletic trainer for the men’s basketball team, and will assist with football and men’s lacrosse duties.
 
Miller graduated in May with a Bachelor's degree in athletic training and kinesiology with a specialization in fitness development from SUNY Cortland. During her time at SUNY Cortland, Miller has worked as an athletic training student, focusing mainly on the men’s lacrosse, women’s ice hockey, and men’s and women’s track and field teams.
 
 Miller recently worked as a strength and conditioning intern with Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning in Winchester, Mass., where she instructed young athletes in all aspects of strength and conditioning programs. Miller has also worked as an athletic training student at Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania, where she evaluated and provided immediate care for athletes competing in extreme sports.
 
“Ashley is the top graduate coming out of Cortland’s program this year; we are excited that she chose Colgate to continue her professional career,” Erb said. “She has a wide variety of interests and experiences that will lend themselves well to her work at Colgate.”
 
Miller will be working primarily with the women’s basketball and volleyball teams, and she will assist with women’s lacrosse duties.
