HAMILTON, N.Y. (5/10/2007)—Seven members of the Colgate University women’s outdoor track and field team will continue their season on May 12-13 at the 24th annual ECAC Championship at Princeton University. The Raiders will feature three individuals and one relay team in the competition.

Sophomore Curry Knox (Seattle, Wash.) will kick off the action in the 100-meter dash trials at 3:45 p.m., on May 12. Knox most recently finished fifth at the Patriot League Championships with a time of 12.44. She clocked her fastest time of the season at the Big Red Invitational, running an ECAC qualifying time of 12.13, the second fastest time of her career. The finals for the 100-meter dash are set for May 13 at 1:15 p.m.

Competing next for the Raiders will be freshman Lauren Abuouf (Livingston, N.J.) in the discus. That event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., on May 12. Abuouf really hit her stride in the final weeks of the season, establishing big personal bests in the final two weeks of the regular season. She most recently took fourth place at the Patriot League Championship with a Colgate record and ECAC qualifying throw of 42.42 meters. It was over two meters better than her previous personal best and surpassed the six-year old record by just under two meters.

The 4x800-meter relay team will close out the competition in the trials on May 12 at 5:45 p.m. The quartet of seniors Liz Crowley (West Simsbury, Conn.), Nicole Christoforo (Rockland, Mass.), Hannah Failing (Deerfield, N.Y.), and sophomore Kristen Kiraly (Huntington, N.Y.) have established school records in each of their past two outings. They most recently ran the two miles in 9:00.69 to take third at the Patriot League Championship. They shaved nearly seven seconds off of their previous record set the week before at the Penn Relays. Teams that qualify for the finals will run on May 13 at 2:50 p.m. Individually, Christoforo recently earned all-Patriot League second-team recognition for her runner-up finish in the 800-meter run at the Patriot League Championship.

Sophomore Rita Santibanez (Salem, Ore.) will compete in both the javelin and shot put on May 13. She will open the day’s competition with the javelin at 10:30 a.m. and close out the day at 1 p.m., in the shot put. The record owner in both events, Santibanez recorded a season-best throw of 42.61 meters in the javelin at the Bison Outdoor Classic. In the shot put, she established a school record for the fourth time this season at the Patriot League Championship. She registered a toss of 13.67 meters to finish second overall and earn all-Patriot League second-team honors.
