Men's Tennis Wins Battle with Bucknell, 5-2

Sophomore Martin MacIntyre won his sixth straight singles match in the Raiders' 5-2 win over Bucknell.
 
LEWISBURG, Pa. (4/8/07) – The Colgate University men’s tennis team won its first Patriot League match of the season, with a 5-2 win over Bucknell University on Sunday, April 8 at Gerhard Fieldhouse. 
 
The win marks the Raiders’ third straight as they improve to 7-9 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League, while Bucknell falls to 6-11 and 0-3 in the league.
 
The Raiders won at No. 2 and 3 doubles and claimed singles wins at No. 2, 3, 4 and 5.
 
Sophomore Martin MacIntyre (Arlington, Va.) and junior Tyler Deck (Newport Beach, Calif.) got past Ira Reibeisen and Ben Young, 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.  The duo is undefeated in their last five matches.
 
The freshman tandem of John Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.) and Michael Yassky (New York, N.Y.) defeated Daniel Bednarek and Zach Hascoe at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.  Since pairing up on April 2, the two have not lost a doubles match, going 3-0.
 
The Bison evened the match after a win at No. 1 singles, but the Raiders took four of the next five singles to win the match.
 
MacIntyre, who earned a Patriot League honorable mention nod for the month of March, is on a tear as he won his sixth straight match.  He lost the first set of No. 2 singles to Ryan Sanburg but bounced back to win the match with 6-3, 6-4 scores in the next two sets.
 
Senior Marshall Wheeler (Darien, Conn.) dominated Zach Hascoe, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.  Wheeler is 6-0 in his last six matches.
 
Jonathan Brenner took the first set of No. 4 singles in a tiebreaker over Deck, 7-6 (4).  Deck came back to win the match with 6-3, 6-4 scores.
 
Nogueras registered a win at No. 5 singles over Ben Young, marking his fourth consecutive win at No. 5.  The two traded 6-4 scores before Nogueras won the super set 10-6.
 
Colgate travels to Easton, Pa., on Tuesday, April 10 to take on Lafayette at 4 p.m.
