WORCESTER, Mass. (4/29/07) – The Colgate University men’s rowing team took first place in two races at the 2007 Patriot League Challenge, that was held on Sunday, April 29 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

 

The Raiders finished first in both the Varsity 4 and the Second Varsity 8 and claimed second in the Varsity 8 race.

 

Colgate blew the competition out of the water in the Varsity 4 race, placing first and second. The Raiders’ A boat had a winning time of 6 minutes and 37 seconds.  Earning the gold medal were Brenna O'Rourke (cox), Peter Engebretson (stroke), Andrew Hatzenbuhler (3-seat), Austin Sigety (2-seat), Doug Herling (bow). In the Raiders’ B boat were Chris Monterosso (cox), Brad Ernst (stroke), Eddie Gastel (3-seat), Bryan Pape (2-seat), Tom Leonard (bow).  The B boat finished with at time of 6:41.1 for second place.  Bucknell finished third at 6:44.3, Holy Cross took fourth with 6:45.6, and Lehigh claimed fifth with 7:48.4.

 

In the Second Varsity 8, the Raiders had a first-place finish of 6:08.63, just under four seconds ahead of Lehigh which clocked in at 6:12.55.  Holy Cross claimed third with a time of 6:17.8, followed by Army at 6:21.8 and Holy Cross’ B boat at 6:40.5.  In the boat for the Raiders were Mary Dekar (cox), Kurt Miller (stroke), Matt Rogowski (7-seat), Will Fox (6-seat), Mark Robson (5-seat), Marc Cassone (4-seat), Isaac Goodling (3-seat), Antonio Perez (2-seat), Oliver Jensen (bow).

 

The Raiders came in just under four seconds after first place Holy Cross in the Varsity 8 race.  The Crusaders crossed the line at 5:55.0 with the Raiders right behind at 5:59.59.  Army clocked in at 6:01.9 for third place, followed by Lehigh at 6:05.99.  Making up the boat were Brenna O’Rourke (cox), Peter Engebretson (stroke), Andrew Hatzenbuhler (7-seat), Bryan Pape (6-seat), Eddie Gastel (5-seat), Doug Herling (4-seat), Tom Leonard (3-seat), Brad Ernst (2-seat), Austin Sigety (bow).
