Raiders Fall 5-2 to Army in First Patriot League Tennis Match

WEST POINT, N.Y. (3/4/07) – The Colgate University men’s tennis team lost its first Patriot League match of the season, falling 5-2 to Army on Sunday, March 4 at the Lictenberg Tennis Center.
 
The Black Knights swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead before entering the singles matches.  Colgate won at No. 4 and No. 6.
 
Junior Tyler Deck (Newport Beach, Calif.) claimed No. 4 singles, defeating Eddie Kang.  After losing the first set, 6-3, Deck rebounded to take the next set 7-6 and won the superset 10-8.
 
Freshman Michael Yassky (New York, N.Y.) topped Johnny Lucero at No. 6 singles, also winning in three.  Lucero took the first set 6-4, before Yassky came back to win the next two by matching 6-3 scores.
 
Sophomore Martin MacIntyre (Arlington, Va.) gave Michael Good a run at No. 2 singles.  The two opponents exchanged 6-3 wins before Good won a narrow 7-6 decision in the final set to win the match.
 
Colgate (2-6) makes the short trip to Cornell on Tuesday, March 6 for a 5 p.m., match.
