WEST POINT, N.Y. (3/31/07) – The Colgate University women’s tennis team fell to Army, 7-0 on Saturday, March 31 at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center, in the Raiders' first Patriot League match of the season.
The Black Knights (9-10, 3-0 PL) swept the three doubles matches and six singles for the win.
Senior
Jackie Couture (Richmond, Va.) and freshman
Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.), fell to Niki Flach and Brooke Jones, 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Army’s Sarah Giles-Madden and Jessica Shurtz took No. 2 doubles over freshman
Samantha Inacker (Lake Forest, Ill.) and sophomore
Cameron Thaney (Rochester, N.Y.), 8-2.
In the final doubles match of the day, Army’s Kristin Beehler and Paige Ford topped
Erin Fenn (Evanston, Ill.) and
Jackie Stimmel (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), 8-1.
Couture fell, 6-0, 6-2 to Flach at No. 1 singles and DeRose lost at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2 to Jones.
Inacker was shut down for the first time in four matches, as Giles-Madden took a 6-1, 6-2 match at No. 3 singles. Also ending a three-match win streak was Fenn, at No. 4, losing to Beehler, 6-1, 6-0.
Thaney was defeated by Shurtz at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman
Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.) lost by the same scores to Ford at No. 6 singles.
Colgate (7-6, 0-1) will play Long Island University on Sunday, April 1 at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
