POTSDAM, N.Y. (2/3/07) – The Colgate University women’s hockey team fell 1-0 to Clarkson University on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Cheel Arena.
The Raiders are now 13-12-2 overall and 12-4-1 in the ECAC Hockey League, while the Golden Knights improve to 14-12-3 and 6-9-2 in the conference.
Clarkson was able to benefit off Colgate’s fifth penalty of the game, with a goal at 8:44 of the second. Amanda Dittmer connected with Genevieve LaVoie in the neutral zone and LaVoie passed the puck right to the tape of Marie-Jo Gaudet. Gaudet skated one-one-one, up the right side, and rifled a shot over Hamashuk’s shoulder.
Shots were in favor of the Golden Knights, 13-3 in the first. However, six of those 13 shots came during the power-play.
A scary moment occurred at the 10-minute mark when the train whistle blew and the goal light went green to signal a Golden Knight goal.
Clarkson skating on the power-play had a shot turned away by sophomore goalie
Elayna Hamashuk (Nepean, Ont.) and then it was accidentally kicked in a by a Colgate skater who was battling with a Clarkson player out front. The referees conversed and called off the goal due to it being a ‘kick goal.’
The Golden Knights continued to test Hamashuk in net in the second, as they had an 11-8 edge in shots in the second stanza.
The Raider goalie came up with some big leg saves and stopped four consecutive chances at the seven-minute mark.
With 1:40 remaining in regulation Clarkson was called for a tripping infraction. The Raiders called a timeout at 1:08 and at that time pulled Hamashuk in favor of the extra attacker, but couldn’t sneak one past Hurley
Hurley finished the night with 20 saves, while Hamashuk stopped 29.
Colgate hosts nationally-ranked squads Dartmouth and Harvard on Feb. 9-10, in the final home games of the regular season. The Raiders entertain the Big Green on Friday at 7 p.m., and the Crimson on Saturday at 4 p.m.
