PHILADELPHIA (2/24/07) – LaSalle scored four unanswered goals within the final 14 minutes of the second half to defeat the Colgate women’s lacrosse team, 11-10, on Saturday, Feb. 24, at McCarthy Stadium. The one-goal loss was the second in a row for the Raiders, who drop to 0-2 on the year.

Colgate was up 10-7 with just over five minutes elapsed in the second half, after junior Jessica Van der Meulen (Liverpool, N.Y.) netted her second goal of the game on a free-position shot. The teams went without a goal over the next 11-plus minutes, but that’s when LaSalle’s offense kicked into high gear.

Catie Borneman started the rally with a goal from the 8-meter line with 13:19 left on the clock. Sixty-one seconds later, Stephany McKee cut Colgate’s lead to one on a goal that was set up by Tiffany Grossi. Grossi scored one of her own with 4:51 left to knot the score at 10-all. Borneman beat Raider freshman goalkeeper Amanda Gurin (Scarsdale, N.Y.) with 1:45 remaining in regulation to lift her Explorers to victory. Grossi finished with a game-high three goals along with an assist.

Colgate’s offensive effort was led by junior Lindsay Pittard (Skaneateles, N.Y.), who contributed two goals and two assists. Sophomore Ashley Didio (Syracuse, N.Y.) added two goals and an assist, while senior Brianne Tierney (Princeton, N.J.) and Van der Meulen each added a pair of goals. Sophomore Molly Carroll (Swarthmore, Pa.) chipped in an assist to go with a team-high six groundballs and six draw controls.

Raider sophomore goalie Sara Drexler (Pottstown, Pa.) made six saves in the first half before being replaced by Gurin, who made two saves in the second. LaSalle’s Chantelle McCormick earned the victory after making five stops in each half for a total of 10 saves on the day. Colgate edged LaSalle in shots, 24-21, as well as in groundballs, 21-17.

The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 28, when they visit No. 11 Cornell for a 4:00 p.m., game.
