LEWISBURG, Pa. (2/17/2007)—Bucknell University held Colgate University scoreless for the opening 14:56 and cruised to a 64-32 victory in Patriot League women’s basketball action this evening. Jacquie Seawright led Bucknell with a game-high 17 points, seven rebounds, and six steals.
The Raiders fall to 5-22 overall and 4-8 in Patriot League play, while Bucknell solidifies its hold on first place in the league with a 19-8 overall record and 11-1 mark against conference foes.
Freshman
TaHara Williams (Mason, Ohio) led the Raiders with 10 points. Rookie
Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) added six points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the contest.
Amanda Brown added 14 points for Bucknell, while Hope Foster had eight points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
The Bison defense put the clamps on the Colgate offense for much of the first half as they raced out to a 27-0 lead at the 5:30 mark. The Raiders got on the board 26 seconds later with a jumper from freshman
Elise Bronzo (White Plains, N.Y.). Bucknell never let up, heading into the break ahead 36-10.
Colgate shot just 17.4 percent in the first half, while Bucknell hit 48.5 percent of its shots from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. The Bison forced Colgate into 12 first-half turnovers.
The second half proved to be much of the same as the Raiders never got any closer than 19 points. Colgate improved its shooting in the second frame to 40 percent and held Bucknell to just 36.4 percent from the field.
Colgate shot 27.9 percent for the game and Bucknell was 42.4 percent in the 40 minutes. The Bison dominated the glass 47-33.
Colgate returns to action on Feb. 20, traveling to Holy Cross for a 7 p.m., contest.
