Colgate Plays A Strong Second Half To Defeat Binghamton 73-55

VESTAL, N.Y. (12/5/07)Kyle Roemer (Martinez, CA) tallied 21 points to lead four Colgate players in double figures as the Raiders defeated Binghamton 73-55 in a non-conference game Wednesday night at the Events Center.
 
Colgate (6-3) wins for the sixth time in seven meetings against the Bearcats (1-7).
 
Other Colgate players in double figures were Kendall Chones (Cleveland, OH) with 15 points to go along with eight rebounds, Tim Pounds (Dudley, NC) with 14 points all in the second half, and Daniel Waddy (Tucson, AZ) with 10.
 
Binghamton was paced by Richard Forbes with a game-high 23 points and Mike Gordon with 10.
 
Colgate also received a strong performance from Alex Woodhouse (Alexandria, VA), who grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and blocked a career-high five shots.
 
Binghamton scored the first basket of the second half to tie the contest 31-31, before Colgate answered with five straight points to take the lead for good.  Roemer’s 3-pointer and Peter Minchella’s (West Lafayette, IN) layup gave the Raiders the lead.  Colgate was able to extend its lead to 17 points with 5:45 remaining.  The closest the Bearcats would come the rest of the way was 11 points.
 
The first half saw the lead go back-and-forth for the first nine minutes.  Then with the score tied, 18-18, Colgate put together a seven-point run for its largest lead of the half.  Roemer started the run with a layup, followed by a 3-pointer by Kyle Chones (Cleveland, OH) and Kendall Chones’ jump hook.
 
Binghamton rallied to tie the contest 29-29 when Forbes hit a 3-pointer from the corner with under one minute left in the opening 20 minutes.  Colgate, however, went into the lockerroom with a two-point advantage, when Roemer scored on a layup with three seconds left, 31-29.
 
Colgate shot 52 percent from the field and made 17-of-24 free throws, while Binghamton was held to 33 percent shooting.  The Raiders out-rebounded the home team, 36-31.
