Krista Moser (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) matched her career-high with 17 points, including 13 in the second half, as the Raiders fell to 14th-ranked Auburn University, 99-47, in women’s basketball action. The Tigers’ Ruth Ketcham led all scorers with 26 points.

Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) added 10 points, while rookies
Georgia Gier (Mercer Island, Wash.) and
Alyssa Jann (Westford, Mass.) both had five points apiece. Gier led the team on the glass with six rebounds, including four offensive boards.
Using a stifling and high-pressure defense, Auburn (9-0) raced out to a 19-0 lead in the opening 8:48 before Colgate senior
Shevorne Martin (Brooklyn. N.Y.) drove to the basket for a layup. The Tigers continued to build on their lead behind hot shooting and stellar defense. Moser got a pair of buckets for the Raiders to make it a 31-6 game, but Colgate could not stop the hot hand of Auburn’s Ruth Ketcham as she scored 13 points in an 18-4 run in the final 4:53 of the half and a 49-10 lead at the break.
Auburn could not miss from behind the arc, hitting 7-of-10 for 70 percent. The Tigers overall shot 48.7 percent (19-of-39) from the floor, while Colgate was 20.8 percent from the field.
Colgate came out of the break and found an offensive rhythm, scoring 37 points to Auburn’s 50. The Raiders were able to generate good looks at the basket midway through the half and went on a 13-3 run to cut into the Tigers’ big lead.
After the Tigers opened the second frame with a 21-4 run, the Raiders picked up its defense and outscored the No. 14 team in the nation 21-11 over the next seven minutes. Garman had 10 points and Moser had five during the Raider run.
The Raiders continued to battle down the stretch in the setback and shot 46.4 percent in the second half, including 50 percent from long range. Colgate also cut its turnovers by seven in the second session and forced the Tigers into seven.
Auburn had three other players with double figures with Ali Smalley finished with 16 points and DeWanna Bonner and Sherell Hobbs added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Bonner and Whitney Boddie led the way on the glass with five boards apiece. Boddie also handed out a game-high eight assists.
For the game, Colgate shot 34.6 percent (18-of-52) from the field and 25 percent (3-of-12) from long range. Auburn hit 57.6 percent (38-of-66) from the floor for the contest and an incredible 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from behind the arc. The Raiders were strong on the glass tying the Tigers 33-33, including grabbing 11 offensive rebounds to Auburn’s nine.
Colgate returns to action on Dec. 8, hosting St. Bonaventure at 2 p.m., on Cotterell Court.
