DURHAM, N.H. (12/30/07) – Junior Alex Woodhouse (Alexandria, VA) scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Colgate to a 49-46 non-conference win over New Hampshire Sunday at Lundholm Gymnasium.

Colgate (7-5) concludes its six-game road trip with a 3-3 mark, while UNH (3-8) drops its seventh straight game.  The Raiders are 2-0 against teams out of the America East Conference this season.

Other top scorers for Colgate were Kyle Roemer (Martinez, CA) and Willie Morse (State College, PA) with six points apiece.  The Raiders were held to their second lowest point total of the season despite making 45 percent from the field.

UNH was led by Eric Gilchrese with 14 points and Alvin Abreu with 13.  The Wildcats managed only 25 percent shooting with only 14 baskets with half coming from 3-point range.

The Wildcats opened the game with eight straight points by Abreu, who nailed a pair of 3-pointers.  Trailing by seven points midway through the first half, Colgate scored nine straight points to take its first lead of the game, 15-13.  Peter Minchella (West Lafayette, IN) started the run with a jumper, before Woodhouse added a pair of baskets and Morse scoring on a 3-pointer.

UNH held a 21-18 lead with under five minutes left in the first half, before the Raiders scored four straight points on a free throw by Kendall Chones (Cleveland, OH) and Morse’s second 3-pointer to take a one-point lead.  The Wildcats would outscore the visitors 6-2 over the final three minutes for a 27-24 halftime lead.  Cilchrese, who had eight first half points, scored five of New Hampshire’s final six points.

In the second half, UNH scored the first two points to open a five-point lead, before Colgate put together a 17-4 run for an eight-point advantage, 41-33, with 12:34 remaining.

The Raiders increased their lead to a 10-point margin, 48-38, with 6:57 left.  Colgate would managed only one free throw by Woodhouse the rest of the way, as UNH chipped away at the lead.  Costly turnovers allowed the Wildcats back into contention, and UNH had one final attempt to tie the contest on a 3-point field goal attempt by Tyrece Gibbs at the buzzer.  The Raiders finished with a season-high 23 turnovers.

GAME NOTES:  Woodhouse was 7-of-7 from the field … Roemer finished with a career-high nine rebounds … Colgate's seven non-conference Division I victories is the most since the Raiders had eight in 1992-93 ... the Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at home against the University of Maine.
