Syracuse Rolls Over Colgate 87-59 At The Carrier Dome

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (12/18/07) – Freshman Donte Greene scored a career-high 26 points to lead Syracuse (8-3) to an 87-59 victory over Colgate (6-4) Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome.
 
Syracuse extended its winning streak to 42 straight games over the Raiders.
 
Freshman Mike Venezia (Westfield, NJ), playing in his first collegiate game, led Colgate in scoring with 11 points, while Kyle Roemer (Martinez, CA) and Kendall Chones (Cleveland, OH) tallied 10 apiece.  Venezia injured his knee in preseason drills, and just returned to the lineup for the Raiders.  Tim Pounds (Dudley, NC) added nine points, while Alex Woodhouse (Alexandria, VA) had eight points and five rebounds.
 
Greene received support from Arinze Onuaku with 17 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Paul Harris with 13 points and Jonny Flynn with 12 points.
 
Colgate came into the game ranked fourth nationally in 3-point field goal percentage, but the tallest SU squad forced the Raiders into 22-of-59 from the field (.373) and 5-of-17 from behind the arc (.294).
 
Syracuse jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back.  The Orange quickly increased their advantage to 16 points, 23-7, before Colgate was able to cut the deficit to 10 points with 6:05 left in the first half.  Syracuse led at halftime, 40-25.
 
Colgate will play at Penn State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
