Colgate Beats Dartmouth, 160-134, in Women's Swimming

Freshman Erin McGraw won three individual events and was part of a victorious relay at Dartmouth.

HANOVER, N.H. (11/11/07) -
The Colgate women's swimming team earned its third win of the season with a 160-134 victory against Dartmouth on Sunday, Nov. 11, behind three individual wins and a relay victory by freshman Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.).

McGraw won both butterfly events for the second time this season. She earned her second win of the year in the 100 fly with a time of 58.03, and she posted a time of 2:09.27 in the 200 fly for her fourth victory of the season in the event. She edged junior teammate Ashley Bottger (Weston, Conn.) for a win in the 100 free with a time of 53.74, giving her her first career win in the event.

Freshman Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) won the 1000 free for the fourth time this season, touching the wall in 10:39.45. She also took gold in the 500 free for the second time this year, finishing in 5:08.84. Classmate Emily Kelly (Potomac, Md.) was second in the 500, finishing in 5:14.73.

Junior Beverly Walker (Marietta, Ga.) was also a double winner, taking the 100 back in a time of 1:00.40 and the 200 back in 2:11.01. Senior Colby Seamans (Naperville, Ill.) was third in the 100 back, touching the wall in 1:02.49, and she was fourth in the 200, just 0.04 seconds behind the third-place finisher in 2:13.21.

Sophomore Caitlin Curran (Alpharetta, Ga.) won the 200 breast in a time of 2:28.21. Classmate Alaina Sullivan (Shaker Heights, Ohio) was third with a time of 2:30.70. Bottger won the 50 free in her best time so far this season, 24.70. Bottger's second-place time in the 100 free was 54.00.

Junior Emily Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished second in the 100 breast, posting a time of 1:10.05. Curran was just 0.07 seconds behind her in third place. Murphy came in third in the 200 free, finishing in 1:58.25.

Guyett came in second in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:12.19 and edging Emily Murphy who was third with a time of 2:14.76. Sophomore Kate Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) finished third in the 100 fly, recording a time of 59.68.

Colgate began the day by winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:02.96. McGraw led wth a split of 1:00.45 in the backstroke portion of the race, and she was followed by Emily Murphy, Kate Murphy, and Walker, who swam a split of 54.54 in the freestyle leg. The Raiders also won the 400 free relay that ended the meet. The foursome of Walker, Kate Murphy, Guyett, and Bottger posted Colgate's second-best time of the season in the event, 3:33.82.

Colgate takes a break from competition until after Thanksgiving. The Raiders return to the water at the Kenyon Invitational, which will take place Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
