HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/20/07) – Despite a 21-point effort by
Melanie Cargle (Trotwood, OH), the Colgate women’s basketball team (2-18, PL 1-4) dropped a 74-48 decision to second place Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court.
The Bison (12-8, PL 4-1) were led by Jacquie Seawright and Lauren Schober with 16 points apiece, while Amanda Brown added 15 points and Hope Foster 10.
Caitlin Gillard (Vestal, NY) added nine points and five rebounds for the Raiders, while
Gretchen Polinski (Mansfield, OH) and
Tahara Williams (Mason, OH) tallied five points and four rebounds apiece.
Bucknell used two large runs to take control of the game. The first came with Colgate leading 22-20 with 3:46 remaining in the first 20 minutes. The Bison tallied 12 straight points en route to a 32-24 halftime lead.
In the second half, Colgate opened with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 34-32, but Bucknell tallied five straight points for a 39-32 lead with 17:30 remaining. After Cargle scored a pair of free throws, Bucknell came up with its second big run scoring 15 straight points for put the contest away.
The Bison later increased their advantage to 26 points, with the Raiders getting no closer than 18 points.
Bucknell edged Colgate in the rebounding department 39-36 with Le’Le LeSeur leading the way with seven caroms. The Bison shot 45 percent from the field including 6-of-12 from behind the arc, while Colgate managed only 33 percent shooting.
Colgate will be back in action next Wednesday night when the Raiders play host to Holy Cross.
