HANOVER, N.H. (1/2/2007)—Colgate University senior
Carly Brescacin (Tecumseh, Ontario) scored a career-high 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders fell to Dartmouth College 68-48 in women’s basketball action in Leede Arena this evening. The Big Green’s Kristen Craft had a career-high 14 points to lead all Dartmouth players.
The Raiders fall to 1-14 overall, while Dartmouth earns its second consecutive victory of the season to improve to 4-8 on the season.
The Raiders jumped out to the early 10-5 lead in the game’s opening five minutes, but Dartmouth responded in a big way with a 22-3 run over the next 12 minutes of the contest to go ahead, 27-13. Ashley Taylor paced the streak with 10 points, while Kristen Craft had eight points.
Junior
Caitlin Gillard (Vestal, N.Y.) stopped the run with a layup at the 3:39 mark. The Big Green, however were able to maintain its lead, heading into the locker room ahead, 33-19.
The Raiders struggled to find the bottom of the basket, shooting 33 percent from the floor for the half. Dartmouth hit 44.8 percent of its shots in the first 20 minutes.
Coming out of the break, Colgate was able to cut the lead to 11 points at, 39-28, but could never get any closer as the Big Green cruised to the 20-point victory.
Dartmouth continued to shoot well in the second stanza with a 53.3 percentage from the floor. The Big Green hit 49.2 percent of its shots for the game, but just 16.7 percent from long range.
Freshman
TaHara Williams (Mason, Ohio) added 11 points for the Raiders, while junior
Melanie Cargle (Trotwood, Ohio) came off the bench late in the second half to score eight points. Sophomore
Gretchen Polinski (Mansfield, Ohio) had nine points and four rebounds for the Raiders.
Dartmouth’s leading scorer Ashley Taylor pitched in 12 points, while Darcy Rose had 11 points. Margaret Smith pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Colgate hit 33.9 percent of its shots for the game and 28.6 from three-point range.
The Raiders open their Patriot League schedule on Jan. 6, when they host defending league champ Army on Cotterell Court at 4 p.m.
