Gillard Named Patriot League Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Gillard averaged 14.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in three games at Iowa State.

Junior Caitlin Gillard is the Patriot League Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 31.
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (1/2/2006)—Colgate University junior Caitlin Gillard (Vestal, N.Y.) was named the Patriot League women’s basketball Baden Player of the Week the league office announced on Jan. 2. This is the first weekly award of Gillard’s career and the fourth weekly accolade of the season for the Raiders.
 
Gillard averaged 14.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in three games at Iowa State this past week. She led the team in scoring in all three contests and finished the weekend second on the team in rebounding.
 
The junior forward scored a weekend-high 16 points against Loyola Marymount and followed that up with a game-high 15 points against Utah State the next evening. She scored 12 points in the matchup with Iowa State on Dec. 28. Shooting 52.9 percent from the field for the three games, Gillard has led the Raiders in scoring in seven games this season.
 
For the year, Gillard is averaging 11.9 points, 7.3 rebounds per game, and 1.9 blocks per game. She has scored in double-digits nine times and is averaging a team-high 33.1 minutes per game.
 
Gillard is the fourth Raider to earn a weekly honor. Freshmen TaHara Williams (Mason, Ohio), Elise Bronzo (White Plains, N.Y.), and Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) all were named Rookie of the Week this season.
 
The Raiders close out their non-conference schedule tonight on Jan. 2 at Dartmouth. Colgate and the Big Green will tip off at 5 p.m.
 
Colgate opens Patriot League play on Jan. 6, hosting defending champion Army at 4 p.m., on Cotterell Court.
