WASHINGTON, D.C. (01/13/07)—American University Andre Ingram scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Eagles to a 70-48 victory over visiting Colgate University in Patriot League men’s basketball action this evening at Bender Arena. Colgate was led by Kendall Chones (Cleveland, Ohio) with 16 points and six rebounds.

Colgate falls to 6-10 overall on the season and 1-2 in league action, while American improves to 9-8 and 1-2 against conference opponents.

American used a pair of big runs in the first half to capture its first league win of the season. Colgate got a basket from sophomore Willie Morse (State College, Pa.) to pull within three, 13-10, in the early going. The Eagles responded in a big way, going on a 12-0 run that spanned nearly six minutes.

The Raiders cut the lead back to 11 points, but could not get any closer as the Eagles continued to pull away. American closed out the half with a 13-5 run to take a 38-18 lead into the break.

Coming out of the break, Kendall Chones put a small run together single handedly, scoring the team’s first nine points of the half to make it a 40-25 game. That would be as close as the Raiders would get as American’s shots continued to fall in the second half.

Senior Jon Simon (Phoenix, Ariz.) added 12 points for the Raiders, while Alex Woodhouse (Alexandria, Va.) had eight points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Lina Lekavicius dropped in nine points to help the Eagles’ cause.

Colgate shot just 29.2 percent from the floor, while American hit 43.5 percent of its shots in the game. The Eagles also controlled the boards, outrebounding Colgate 43-32.

Colgate returns to the court on Jan. 17 at Lehigh. That game is set to tip off at 7 p.m.
