HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/26/06) – Senior midfielder
Charlie Lambropoulos (Lexington, Ky.) scored in the 29th minute to give Colgate men’s soccer a 1-0 win over Siena on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Van Doren Field.
Just two minutes after freshman
Chris Salmon (Auburn, Wash.) entered the game he found himself with the ball in the Raider offensive zone about 35 yards out. Salmon displayed fancy footwork along the near sideline as he faked out his defender and dribbled around him. Salmon sent the ball up the field and into the box to a sprinting Lambropoulos who sent a high ball up over the head of the Siena keeper at 28:24.
The goal was Lambropoulos first of the season, and it was the third time Salmon has recorded a point within minutes of entering the game. Salmon now leads the team in scoring with five points.
The Raiders outshot the Saints 15-6 in the game and also had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
David Cappuccio (Pittsford, N.Y.) extended his shutout minutes to 490 this season as he made three stops in his third win of the season. Siena’s Patrick Henry made four saves as the Saints fall to 1-6-1 on the season.
The Raiders, ranked No. 24 in the nation, are now 6-0-2 on the season and will travel to Lewisburg, Pa., on Saturday, Sept. 30 to take on Bucknell in a Patriot League contest at 4 p.m.
