Bitsack Scores in OT to Give Colgate a 1-0 Win Over Columbia

Freshman Jessica Bitsack scored at 93:58 to give Colgate a 1-0 win over Columbia.
 
NEW YORK, N.Y. (9/24/06) – Freshman Jessica Bitsack (Menham, N.J.) scored three minutes into overtime to give Colgate University women’s soccer a 1-0 win over Columbia on Saturday at Columbia Soccer Stadium.
 
Bitsack scored after the ball was chipped into the box and a scramble ensued in front of net.  Bitsack got to the ball and sent it past keeper Allison Vespa at 93:58.  Freshman Jillian Arnault (Clay, N.Y.) and junior Kathleen Head (Evanston, Ill.) were credited with the assists.
 
Junior keeper Carly Sousa (Darien, Conn.) earned the win for the Raiders, making three stops.  Vespa did not make any saves.
 
The Lions outshot the Raiders 11-5 in the contest.  Each team had three chances in the first half, but the Lions turned on the offense in the second taking 7 shots to the Raiders’ 1.  Both teams had one shot in the overtime session.
 
This is the second straight meeting between the squads that went into the extra session, with the Raiders winning both.
 
Colgate is now 7-2 on the season, while Columbia falls to 3-4-2.
 
Colgate will host regional rival Cornell on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
