Raiders Lose to West Chester, 2-0, in Field Hockey

, N.Y. (9/23/06) – The Colgate field hockey team lost to West Chester, 2-0, on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Tyler’s Field. The loss brings the Raiders’ record to 2-6 overall heading into their first Patriot League game of the year next weekend.

Senior goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio) made nine saves for Colgate, while Nicole Dull earned the shutout after making three stops. The Golden Rams outshot the Raiders 15-9, and were awarded 10 penalty corners to Colgate’s seven.

Shelly Brooks led WCU with a goal and an assist. She set up West Chester’s first score with 10:35 left in the first half. After Brooks hit the ball toward the net on a penalty corner, Samantha Krick tipped the ball past DeMarco to get the Golden Rams on the board. In the second half, at the 42:40 mark, Brooks gave West Chester a 2-0 lead on a penalty stroke, putting the ball into the upper right corner of the cage.

Colgate plays its first Patriot League game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 30, when it hosts defending conference champion American for an 11:00 a.m., game.
