HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/13/06) – Colgate University head women’s ice hockey coach Scott Wiley has announced the hiring of
Allison Paiano as an assistant coach.
A native of Orleans, Ont., Paiano is a 2006 Colgate graduate. She earned dual degrees in both International Relations and French and was four-year letterwinner on the women’s ice hockey team.
"We are thrilled to add Allison to our coaching staff,” Wiley said. “She was the perfect fit for this position. She is a mature, energetic and hard-working person who will embrace this challenge with the same desire that made her one of the best players this program has ever had.
“Her knowledge of our program and the university will be invaluable,” Wiley said. “She knows what it takes to be a successful student-athlete at Colgate and I know that she has the respect of our players, administrators and coaches."
“I’m happy to be back at Colgate working with head coach Scott Wiley and the women’s ice hockey program,” Paiano said. “I’m looking forward to helping guide a program which I’ve had first-hand experience in watching it grow during my four years as a student-athlete. I’m excited to be on the other side of the bench and learn more about women’s ice hockey from a coaching perspective.”
A member of the Colgate century club with 110 career points, Paiano ranks second on the all-time career scoring list. She scored 54 goals in her career to reach second on the all-time list and her 56 assists is fourth all-time.
She holds career records for most penalty minutes (145), most short-handed goals (4), and is tied for most points in a game with six. Paiano is second in career power-play goals (18), game-winning goals (8) and games played (136).
Paiano was a member of the 2005 ECACHL All-Star Team that competed against the U.S. National Team in Nov. 2005. She was also selected to the first NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge in April. In Milwaukee she made a name for herself and for Colgate women’s hockey when she scored the goal that led to the East defeating the West.
Paiano has coached at numerous camps and clinics, including: Jacques Martin Hockey School, Pro Ambitions Hockey School, Jayna Hefford and Lori Dupuis Hockey School, Huron Hockey School, Dan Tessier Hockey School and Wizard Pro Goaltending Hockey School.
Prior to coming to Colgate, Paiano played for the Ottawa Raiders of the National Women’s Hockey league (NWHL). She is a 2002 graduate of St. Peter High School.
The Raiders open their season on Sept. 29 when they host Bluewater in an exhibition contest at 7 p.m.
