NEW HAVEN, Conn. (9/10/06) – The Colgate University men’s soccer team defense remains impenetrable as the Raiders recorded a 1-0 victory over Yale on Sunday, Sept. 10 at the E*Trade Financial 2006 Yale Soccer Classic Presented by Barnes & Noble.
The Bulldogs outshot the Raiders 14-4 but couldn’t sneak one past the defense. Senior
Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y.) made seven stops for Colgate, in his second start and second shutout of the season.
Freshman
Chris Salmon (Auburn, Wash.) came in off the bench and within 11 minutes put Colgate on the scoreboard. Salmon notched his first collegiate goal when he settled a
Jimmy Stephens (Naperville, Ill.) pass just outside the box and rifled a shot with his left foot past Yale’s keeper Erik Geiger at 40:38.
Geiger would go on to make one stop for the Bulldogs, which drops to 2-2-0 on the season.
Colgate took second in the tournament behind George Mason which went 2-0 over the weekend. Making the all-tournament team for the Raiders were Salmon, junior
Dan Belke (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) and senior
Eli Meyers (Pittsburgh, Pa).
Colgate now 3-0-2 has not allowed a goal all season. The Raiders have recorded four goals on 54 attempts, while their opponents have also had 54 attempts.
The Raiders will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16 when they travel to West Point to take on Army in the first Patriot League match of the year. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
