Colgate and Albany Battle to a Scoreless Tie

Colgate goalkeeper David Cappuccio makes one of his four saves against Albany on Sept. 1.

ALBANY (9/1/06) – The Colgate University men’s soccer team played to a scoreless tie with Albany at Varsity Field on Friday, Sept. 1.

The game marks Colgate third straight shutout, as the Raiders have not given up a goal since last season’s Patriot League semifinal on Nov. 11.

The Raiders outshot the Great Danes 17-6 in the contest, including a 5-2 advantage during the double overtime session.  Colgate also had the advantage in corner kicks, taking 14 to Albany’s two.

The Raiders’ opportunities had fans on the edge of their seats as multiple shots rang off the post.

Colgate Sophomore David Cappuccio (Pittsford, N.Y.) recorded his second shutout of the season, making four saves.  Ceus Steward stopped seven shots for Albany.

Colgate, now 2-0-1 on the season, will travel to Quinnipiac on Sunday, Sept. 3 for a 2:30 p.m., contest.
