Women's Lacrosse Team Announces Class of 2010

Eleven members of Colgate's Class of 2010 will join the women's lacrosse team.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/3/06) – Colgate University has announced the addition of 11 players to its women’s lacrosse team as part of the Class of 2010. The group is composed of five attackers, four midfielders, and two defenders.

Katherine Holland, Midfield/Attack, San Diego, Calif. (Torrey Pines)
Holland brings a prestigious resume to Colgate, as she was an honorable mention All-American last season at Torrey Pines High School. While serving as the team captain during the 2006 season, Holland scored 43 points and was named the MVP of her team. As a junior, Holland also won the Tournament MVP award at the National Development Program in Denver.

Christine Kelly, Attack, Hicksville, N.Y. (Hicksville High)
Kelly comes to Colgate from Hicksville High School, where she was a three-time letterwinner for coach Meredith Schneider. After playing JV her freshman season, Kelly was promoted to varsity and became an integral part of her team’s offense. She was named an all-county scholar-athlete during her senior year.

Alexandra Kuntz, Defense, Annapolis, Md. (St. Mary’s)
Kuntz was a two-time letterwinner at St. Mary’s High School. She was named to the all-county team in 2006 and awarded her team’s Unsung Hero Award in both 2005 and 2006. As a junior, her team captured the IAAM-A Conference championship. Kuntz was named to the U.S. Lacrosse all-academic team in both 2005 and 2006.

Elizabeth Lauman, Defense, Baltimore, Md. (Roland Park)
Lauman comes to Colgate after lettering for two years at Roland Park County School in Baltimore, Md. She served as a team captain her senior season and also lettered in soccer and track. Lauman also served as a representative to the Model UN.

Meghan Lawler, Midfield, Liverpool, N.Y. (Liverpool)
One of the most prolific scorers of the incoming class, Lawler had 110 points during her senior season at nearby Liverpool High School. In addition to serving as a team captain as a senior, Lawler was named the team MVP in both 2005 and 2006. She was also recognized as an all-state performer for each of those seasons and awarded All-America status after the 2006 season. Lawler also appeared on the national academic team.

Briehan Moran, Attack, Little Silva, N.J. (Red Bank Regional)
Moran, a four-year letterwinner at Red Bank Regional, will provide a tremendous offensive boost for the Raiders this year, coming off a senior season in which she scored 137 goals. She holds school records for the most goals in a game, season, and career, as well as the New Jersey record for the most career goals. For her efforts, Moran was named the New Jersey Sports Player of the Year, MSG’s Player of the Year, and was recognized as an all-state performer for the second consecutive season.

Elizabeth Nolan, Attack, Summit, N.J. (Oak Knoll)
The Raiders gain another talented recruit in Elizabeth Nolan, the captain and MVP of her team during her senior season. A balanced scorer, Nolan had 43 goals and 42 assists in 2006 while leading her team to its fourth consecutive Logan Division Championship. She was also an integral part of the 2005 team that won the New Jersey ISAA state championship. For her efforts Nolan was named to the all-prep first team and all-Logan and all-Galaxy second teams.

Caitlin Patterson, Attack, Kenilworth, Ill. (New Trier)
After playing on the junior varsity team for two seasons, Patterson moved up to the varsity squad at New Trier High School in 2005. As a junior, she won the team’s Most Improved Player award and went on to be named to the all-conference team in both 2005 and 2006. During her senior year, New Trier was ranked fourth in Illinois, and finished with a 17-4-1 record. Patterson was also a scholar-athlete in 2006.

Shelby Scott, Midfield/Attack, St. Louis, Mo. (Mary Institute Country Day School)
Scott served as a varsity team captain at Mary Institute Country Day School in both 2005 and 2006. As a senior, Scott scored 48 points and was named a U.S. Lacrosse All-American as well as to the national academic team. During her time at MICDS, Scott helped lead her team to three consecutive women’s lacrosse state championships between 2004 and 2006.

Courtney Sweeney, Midfield, Pittsburgh, Pa. (Fox Chapel)
Sweeney, a three-time letterwinner at Fox Chapel High School, will provide talent and depth at the midfield position. Sweeney was named the team MVP in both 2004 and 2006, and was named to the all-section team following her senior season.

Jenna Weber, Attack, West Caldwell, N.J. (James Caldwell)
A four-year letterwinner at James Caldwell High School, Weber will provide both leadership and scoring for the Raiders next season. A team captain in 2006, Weber scored 45 points to win the team’s MVP award. She was also named to the all-league team for the third consecutive season, and is the school record-holder for groundballs and forced turnovers in a season.
