HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/29/06) – Senior forward
Devin Deane’s (Oswego, N.Y.) goal in the 64th minute broke a scoreless tie and lifted the Colgate University men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Binghamton on Aug. 29 at Van Doren Field.
Colgate’s
William Batson (Augusta, Ga.) took a thrown-in for Colgate at the 18-yard line on the right side, and sent a great ball to the middle of the box where
Dan Belke (West Bloomfield, Mich.) was positioned. Belke sent the ball forward to Deane who swiftly kicked the ball past Binghamton’s keeper Ryan Bertoni at 64:30.
The goal came after two goals, one by each squad, was called off in the first half. Twenty minutes into the contest, a Raider goal was called off due to a pushing foul inside the box. Just minutes later, the Bearcats believed they had scored, but the officials called the goal off due to offsides.
Colgate’s goalkeeper
Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y.) made six saves in his first start of the season. Bertoni collected four balls for Binghamton.
The 1-0 game marked Colgate’s second straight shutout of the season. The Raiders are now 2-0 on the season, while the Bearcats fall to 0-2-1.
The Raiders will be on the road for their next five matches, first stopping off at Albany to take on the Great Danes on Friday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m.
