Colgate Golf Ranked No. 33 by Golf Digest

Colgate golf ranks No. 33 in "academics first" by Golf Digest.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/2/06) – The Colgate University golf team has been ranked No. 33 by Golf Digest in the “academics first” category as part of its second annual College Golf Guide.
 
Golf Digest ranks the NCAA’s best colleges for golf in the September issue (on newsstands August 8).  The rankings and the College Golf Guide package provides a blueprint for high school students with dreams of playing golf in college and professionally (“Golf First” ranking), as well as students focused on education who still desire to play competitive golf (“Academics First” ranking).
 
Five criteria form the basis of the rankings: a college golf team’s adjusted scoring average, player growth while on the team, academics, climate and coaches/facilities.
 
Colgate’s overall score was a 68.294.  The team’s scoring average of 79.27 was 15 percent of its score.  The player growth rate of 0.54 ranked in the top 30 percentile and accounted for 3.5 percent of the score.  Academics was worth 58 percent of the score, and the Raiders earned an 84 which was in the top 20 percentile.  Hamilton’s climate earned the Raiders a 124 and the coaches/facilities earned a 78, which was in the top 30 percentile.  Each were worth 10 percent of the final score.
 
Princeton took top honors in the category, followed by Trinity (Texas), Yale, Linfield and Pennsylvania rounded out the top 5.
