BETHLEHEM, PA (5/12/06) – Army rallied from a 3-1 deficit for a 5-4 eight-inning win over Colgate Friday afternoon to eliminated the Raiders from the 2006 Patriot League Softball Tournament at Lehigh’s Kaufman Field.
Colgate concludes its season with an overall mark of 17-25, while Army advances in the losers bracket where it will face the loser of the Lehigh-Lafayette game..
The Raiders held a 4-3 lead going into the seventh inning, before Army scored once to tie the contest on Mary Ann Kearney’s RBI single. In the eighth inning, Veronica Lauzon doubled with one out, and came home one out later on Veronica Barth’s RBI single.
Colgate was able to get a runner to second in the bottom of the eighth but couldn’t manage to get the tying run home. The Raiders left 11 runners on base including seven in scoring position.
Colgate scored three unearned runs in the second inning after Army had a 1-0 lead. The Raiders scored two unwarned runs and
Vicky Ortengren (Colorado Springs, CO) had an RBI single.
The Cadets scored once in third inning and again the fifth inning to tie the contest 3-3. Colgate came right back in fifth to take a 4-3 lead on
Ashley Rowe’s (Tampa, FL) single.
Kelsey Nordstrom (Salina, KS) went the distance for Colgate. She allowed five runs, three earned, while striking out three and walking four.
Calla Yee (Salinas, CA) had three hits for the Raiders, while
Kortney Hannah (Vacaville, CA),
Tiana Tyeseky (Granite Bay, CA) and Ortengren had two hits apiece.
