HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/21/2006)—Colgate University junior distance runner Michael Hanlon (Ann Arbor, Mich.) has been invited to compete in the Oregon Invitational at Hayward Field on Friday, April 21. Hanlon will compete in the 5,000-meter run at 9 p.m. on Friday evening in the distance carnival.

Hanlon will join many top collegians and post-collegians as they renew Oregon’s rich home meet tradition with a distance carnival that welcomes a host of top U.S. and international talent.

Hanlon is one of just 12 collegiate runners in the field of 24 to be selected to run in the “A” section of the 5,000, which includes U.S. Olympians Dathan Ritzenhein and Jonathon Riley. Ritzenhein won the 5,000 in 2005 with a time of 13:22.23.

The Raiders’ top distance runner heads into the meet after qualifying for the IC4A Championship in the 5,000 at the Sam Howell Invitational with a personal-best time of 14:23.86. Hanlon’s time ranks second all-time at Colgate behind All-American Ray Appenheimer’s record time of 13:59.84.

Tickets will be necessary for Friday’s all-star night session. The Oregon athletics ticket office opens at 4:30 p.m., and the first event of the evening is at 6:00 p.m. Action will conclude shortly after 11 p.m., with the distance events being featured in a three-hour window between 7:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m.

Live results of the meet will be available on Oregon’s Web site at: www.goducks.com.

The rest of the Colgate track and field team will continue its rivalry with league foe Holy Cross on Saturday, April 22. The Crusaders are hosting Central Connecticut, Colgate, Hartford, Maine, and Vermont in the six-team meet. The action begins at 11 a.m.
