LEWISBURG, PA (4/2/06) – For the second straight day, the Colgate softball team (9-12, PL 2-2) split a doubleheader against Bucknell, winning the first game 5-1 before dropping the nightcap 7-6 at West Field.
In the opener, senior
Kate Howard (Wheaton, IL) pitched a five-hitter and freshman center Meg
Mylan (Upper Montclair, NJ) had a pair of RBI for the Raiders.
Colgate opened the scoring in the second inning scoring an unearned run when
Kortney Hannah (Vacaville, CA) crossed the plate on a wild pitch. The Raiders increased their lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Mylan.
Colgate scored three times in the sixth inning on Mylan’s RBI single, a wild pitch and
Whitney Scott’s (Beaverton, OR) two-run single for a 5-0 lead.
Bucknell’s only run came on a seventh inning home run by Kris Devore.
Howard (8-6) walked none and struck out eight in her route going performance including the 300th strikeout of her career. She has 305.
Calla Yee (Salinas, CA) and Scott were 3-for-4 for the Raiders, while Mylan had a pair of hits, and
LaPorscha Albert (Lewisville, TX) had a double.
In the second game, Lauren Wilbe had a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Bucknell to victory.
The Bison had jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, before the Raiders bounced back for a 6-4 lead.
Colgate scored an unearned run in the third inning on a Bucknell fielding error, and added another in the fifth inning on another fielding error.
In the sixth inning, Colgate took its first lead of the game when it scored four times. The first three runs came across on Scott’s bases loaded double, and the last run crossed the plate on a Bucknell fielding error.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ashley Carlson reached on a single. Then after Devore popped up, Laruen Litts walked bringing Wilbe to the plate. Wilbe delivered a shot over the center field fence.
Albert and Hannah had a pair of hits for the Raiders and Scott extended her hitting streak to 11 straight games.
