HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/15/06) - Colgate senior attack Kelly Winning (Oreland, Pa.) recorded a career-high four assists and added a pair of goals as the Raider women’s lacrosse team rolled to a 17-3 victory against American on Senior Day, April 15, at Tyler’s Field.

Colgate’s seniors either scored or assisted on 10 of the team’s 17 goals on the day. Seniors Anne Coomber (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Katie McVeigh (Basking Ridge, N.J.) as well as junior Tara Casey (Syracuse, N.Y.) all contributed three goals, while Winning and sophomore Jessica Van der Meulen (Liverpool, N.Y.) posted two goals each. Four other Raiders got on the board, including senior Eden Haladay (Baltimore, Md.), who netted a goal in the second half.

Another senior helped Colgate seal the win between the pipes. Sue Bielamowicz (Pennington, N.J.) stopped four of the six shots she faced to allow a career-low two goals before she was relieved by freshman Kari Morrison (Alexandria, Va.), who made one save on two shots in the final 7:39 of the game. Senior Kathleen Finnegan took the loss for the Eagles after making 13 stops.

Colgate outshot American 41-12, including 22-6 in the first half, and held a 23-14 advantage on groundballs. The Raiders earned a 12-10 edge on draws, and were successful on 17 of their 18 clear attempts.

Colgate can earn the right to host the Patriot League Tournament for the third straight season when it plays its last conference game of the year on Friday, April 21, at Holy Cross. Currently, the two teams are tied for first place in the league standings with perfect 5-0 records; the winner of Friday’s game will be crowned the league’s regular-season champion and host the tournament, which will produce the league’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament. Friday’s game begins at 3:00 p.m., at the Hart Astro Turf Field.
