French and Leene Named to the ECACHL All-Academic Team

ALBANY, N.Y. (3/7/06) – Colgate women’s hockey players Tara French (Truro, N.S.) and Kara Leene (Waterbury, Vt.) and have been named to the ECAC Hockey League All-Academic Team it was announced by the league office today.
 
A junior studying molecular biology, French makes her second appearance on the conference’s all-academic team.  Leene, a sophomore is undeclared and is making the team for the first time.
 
French anchored the blue line this season and finished as the squad’s top scoring defender with 20 points, including a team-high 18 assists.  This season she became Colgate’s all-time scoring defenseman with a career total of 50 points, surpassing Kelly Roos (’02) who held the distinction for the past four years.  She was also a member of this year’s Canadian U-22 and the ECAC Hockey League All-Star teams.
 
Leene missed the first half of the season due to an injury but returned in January.  She quickly made an impact offensively, recording 11 points in 19 games, including four power-play goals, one short-handed and one game-tying goal.  She posted the first four-goal game by a Raider during the Division I era against Union on Feb. 25.
 
To be eligible for the team, the student-athletes must have completed at least one academic year, have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, and have competed in at least half of her team’s games during the current season.
