Obringer Leads Army Past Colgate, 9-5

WEST POINT, N.Y. (03/25/2006)—Army senior midfielder Mike Obringer tallied a game-high six points on four goals and two assists to lead the Black Knights to a 9-5 victory over 18th-ranked Colgate University in Patriot League men’s lacrosse action at Michie Stadium. Army used a 5-1 run over a span of 30 minutes to clinch the four-goal victory. 
 
Colgate drops to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Black Knights improve to 4-3 and 2-1 in conference action.
 
The first quarter featured a flurry of goals in the opening five minutes. Army started the scoring just 2:44 into the game with a man-up tally by Ryan Chase. Colgate freshman midfielder Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) evened the score 1:19 later with an unassisted score of his own.
 
Obringer responded for the Black Knight just 32 seconds later to put Army ahead for good, 2-1, at the 10:25 mark of the first quarter. Obringer found the back of the net again with 4:02 left in the first stanza off an assist from senior John Walker to send the Black Knights into the first break up 3-1.
 
Raider junior Brendan Hurley (West Islip, N.Y.) made it a one-goal game 1:23 into the second frame with his sixth goal of the season. The Black Knights went back in front by two again just over two minutes later with a goal from Jon Burton, but senior Robert Trasolini (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) fired a shot past Fullerton to pull the Raiders within one for the third time of the afternoon.
 
Colgate could not get any closer as the Army defense stymied the Raider attack. Chase scored his second goal of the game with 47 seconds left in the half to send the Black Knights into halftime up 5-3. Army ran off three more unanswered goals to go in front 8-3 with 7:29 left in the game. Obringer paced the four-goal run with two assists and a goal.
 
Trasolini fired home his 12th goal of the season to stop the run and make it an 8-4 game at the 6:28 mark of the final period. Junior Rob Ryan (Manhasset, N.Y.) rounded out Colgate’s scoring with an unassisted tally with 29 ticks left on the clock. Trasolini led all Raiders with two goals.
 
Army’s John Walker finished the day with a goal and two assists, while Chase had two tallies. The Black Knights got at least one point from seven different players.
 
Senior goaltender Andrew Jarolimek (Silverthorne, Colo.) had 10 stops for the Raiders, while Fullerton made 10 saves as well for the Black Knights.
 
Junior Chris Eck (Fairfield, Conn.) had another strong outing at the faceoff circle, winning 11-of-18 restarts and picking up a game-high five groundballs.
 
Colgate and Army both fired 35 shots apiece in the game, while the Raiders picked up 30 groundballs to the Black Knights’ 23. Army got a pair of man-up goals in four opportunities, while Colgate was 0-for-4 on its man-advantage chances.
 
The Raiders return action on March 28, hosting non-conference foe Marist at 7 p.m., on Tyler’s Field.
