OSCEOLA, FL (3/16/06) – The final day of the Rebel Games in Florida was a rough one for the Colgate softball team (6-7). The Raiders saw Wagner rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win, and then Fairfield pounded out 19 hits en route to a 12-5 victory.
Colgate was 4-6 during the Rebel Games, and will return to action on March 25 at the Mount St. Mary’s Tournament in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
In the opener against Wagner, the Raiders jumped out to a 1-0 in the first inning on a RBI double to left field by
Whitney Scott (Beaverton, OR).
LaPorscha Albert (Lewisville, TX), who was 4-for-7 on the day, led off with a single, and sacrificed to second by
Kim Olmstead (Spring Hill, FL), before she came home on Scott’s blast.
Wagner came right back in its first at bat tying the score on a single by Andrea Lazzari, scoring Ami Iwicki, who walked two batters earlier.
Colgate went ahead 3-1 in the third inning scoring an unearned run on a throwing error and the second run on
Vicky Ortengren’s (Colorado Springs, CO) bases loaded walk.
The Raiders added two more in the fifth inning on a wild pitch and Ortengren’s RBI bunt single, scoring
Tiana Tyeskey (Granite Bay, CA) from third base.
The Seahawks rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning for the victory. With one out, Katie Stevens walked and Iwicki double her to third. After Victoria Batistelli popped out to short, Lazzari doubled to right center to make it 5-4. Lazzari tied the contest scoring on Margaret Gallia’s RBI single, and Gallia raced to second on a play at the plate. Pinch runner Natalie Stephens scored the winning run, when a throwing error on the potential final out, allowed her to cross the plate.
Kate Howard (Wheaton, IL) (5-3) went the distance for the Raiders, allowing 10 hits, five earned runs, striking out three and walking two.
Fairfield used a seven-run third inning to wipe out a 3-1 Colgate lead en route to its victory over the Raiders. The Stags increased their lead to 10-3 in the fifth inning before adding two more runs in the seventh. Colgate’s final two runs came in the bottom of the seventh.
Ashley Rowe (Tampa, FL) had a two-run triple in the first inning for the Raiders, and
Kortney Hannah (Vacaville, CA) scored Rowe with a single to left field. In the seventh inning, Hannah had a RBI single and Tyeskey lifted a sacrifice fly to left field.
Scott was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Rowe and Hannah were 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI apiece.
