Mark Dekanich (North Vancouver, B.C.) was named the ECACHL Goaltender of the Year and received the Ken Dryden Award at the league’s awards banquet on Thursday, Mar. 16, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany, N.Y. Dekanich was joined on the all-league teams by classmate
Tyler Burton (Langley, B.C.), senior
Kyle Wilson (London, Ont.) and freshman
Nick St. Pierre (St. Etienne, Que.).
During league play, Dekanich led the ECACHL with a 1.98 goals against average and a .934 save percentage. His .923 save percentage overall leads the league and ranks 11th in the nation, and his 2.30 goals against average is third in the conference. Dekanich is just the second goalie in Colgate history to receive a major league award, and the first to receive the Dryden Award. All-American netminder Dave Gagnon was honored as the league’s player of the year in 1990.
Dekanich was joined on the all-ECACHL first team by Burton, who led the league with 16 goals during conference play. Burton finished the league slate with 26 points, which ranked fourth, and he netted four of his league-leading five game-winning goals during ECACHL games. Overall, Burton is tied for the team lead and tied for sixth in the league with 40 points, and he is second on the team and in the league with 22 goals.
Wilson was named to the all-league second team, the first league honor of his career. During league play, Wilson was third in the conference with 13 goals and tied for eighth with 23 points. His 40 points overall are tied for the team lead and tied for sixth in the conference, and his 23 goals are tops on the team and in the ECACHL. Wilson tied for the league lead with six power-play goals and four game-winning goals during conference play.
St. Pierre was selected to the all-rookie team, marking the third straight season that Colgate has place a player on the freshman team. St. Pierre, Burton and junior Mike Campaner (Thunder Bay, Ont.) are the three current Raiders who have been all-rookie team selections. This season, St. Pierre leads Colgate’s freshmen and ranks second among its defensemen with 14 points, including 10 points in league contests. He is the only Colgate freshman and defenseman who has skated in all 37 games.
The Raiders take on No. 7/7 Cornell tomorrow in the ECACHL semifinals at 8:00 p.m., at Albany’s Pepsi Arena. Tickets are available through the Colgate ticket office and the Pepsi Arena Box Office.
