ALBANY, N.Y. (3/10/06) – Colgate women’s hockey junior defender
Tara French (Truro, N.S.) and freshman forward
Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) have been named to the all-ECAC Hockey League teams. French has been named to the third team and Hunt to the all-rookie squad.
French finished fourth in scoring this season with 20 points, 18 of which came off of helpers for a team-high. Her 50 career points has made her Colgate’s all-time scoring defenseman. Earlier this season, French was a member of the ECACHL All-Star team and a member of the cup-winning Canadian U-22 team. She is tied for seventh in the league in defenseman scoring and is 15th in the nation in the same category. French is no stranger to all-league honors as she was named honorable mention last year and was an all-rookie selection in 2003-04. She was named to the ECACHL All-Academic team on Tuesday.
Hunt was the Raiders’ leading scorer this season, finishing with 32 points off of 16 goals and 16 assists. She finished tied for the most special team goals with seven and added two game-winners. She set a new Colgate Division I record for most points recorded by a rookie and for most short-handed goals in a season. Hunt is currently ranked 13th in the nation in points per game by a rookie and is fifth in the ECACHL in the same category
St. Lawrence’s Sabrina Harbec was named the league’s Player of the Year while Clarkson’s Kira Hurley was named Goaltender of the Year. Coach of the Year was presented to Jeff Kampersal, head coach at Princeton. The Turfer Athletic Trophy was awarded to Princeton.
