FAIRFIELD, Conn. (02/25/2006)—Colgate University senior midfielder Brian Robinson (Denver, Colo.) scored a career-high five goals to lead the Raiders to a 12-10 victory over Sacred Heart in men’s lacrosse action on Campus Field. Colgate improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 0-1.

The Pioneers got on board first with a score from Matthew Robideau just 48 seconds into the game, but Colgate tallied the next four goals to take a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.

Junior Brendan Hurley (West Islip, N.Y.) got things started for Colgate at the 11:25 mark with his first goal of the season. Seniors Reid Diamond (Boston, Mass.) and Robinson also notched their first goals of the year during the run, while Rob Ryan (Manhasset, N.Y.) recorded his third.

Sacred Heart fired home a shot with one second left in the first period and added another tally four minutes into the second stanza to make it a one-goal game, 4-3. The Raiders responded right away with three unanswered goals, including two from Robinson, to head into halftime up 7-4.

The Pioneers’ Peter Greco and Kiel Adams came out of the break on fire, scoring a combined four unanswered goals to give Sacred Heart its first lead since they were up 1-0.

Coming into the fourth quarter trailing by a goal, Robinson and Hurley paired up for a score just 54 seconds into the final frame to tie the score at eight. Three minutes later it was Hurley feeding senior Robert Trasolini (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) for a man-up goal and a 9-8 advantage.

Sacred Heart responded with a man-up goal of their own three minutes later at 8:47, but it was all Raiders down the stretch as Hurley and Robinson hooked up again 24 seconds later to give Colgate the lead for good.

Hurley finished with a goal and a game-high four assists for the Riaders.

Less than a minute later sophomore Trevor Marticke (Hudson, Ohio) gave Colgate a two-goal cushion with an unassisted tally. Freshman Nick Monastero (Bohemia, N.Y.) rounded out the Raider scoring with three ticks on the clock with an assist from Trasolini.
