HAMILTON, N.Y. (09/04/2005)—Colgate University senior Allie Nichols (Sacramento/Sacramento, Calif.) posted a triple double with 10 kills, 47 assists, and 14 digs this afternoon as the Raiders lost a close volleyball match, 3-1, at Canisius in the Western New York Tournament. The Golden Griffins (3-4) won in four close games, 30-28, 30-21, 29-31, and 30-19. Nichols’ performance today made her the first player in Colgate volleyball history to record three triple-doubles in her career.
Only two other players, Autumn McKenzie and Laura Rohrbacher, had two triple-doubles in their illustrious careers. Freshman hitter Katrina Zawojski (Palo Alto/Palo Alto, Calif.) put together her second career double-double with a team-high 18 kills and 15 digs.
Sophomore Sheila Giovannini (Arlington Catholic/Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Merryl Pohl (Bishop Blanche/Seattle, Wash.) also had strong offensive outings with 15 kills each. Rookie libero Jackie Adlam (Marin Academy/Marin, Calif.) led the defensive effort with a team-best 18 digs. Adlam earned all-Tournament Team honors with her defensive performance in the three matches of the weekend. She finished with 48 digs in three matches.
Canisius’ Mary Boller paced the offense with a game-high 27 kills, while Aislinn Hayes posted a double-double of her own with 12 kills and 12 digs. Setter Lauren Lackovich compiled a game-best 56 assists in the Golden Griffins victory.
Colgate (0-4) returns to action on Sept. 7, traveling to Siena for a 7 p.m., contest with the Saints. That game can be seen live on Time Warner channel three in the Capital Region. The game also will be shown the following day on the same channel.
