BETHLEHEM, PA (2/15/06) – Jose Olivero tallied 15 points to lead Lehigh University to a 67-58 win over Colgate Wednesday night in a Patriot League game at Stabler Arena.
Lehigh (17-9, PL 10-1) wins its fifth straight game and 12 in the last 13 outings to remain in second place in the league. Colgate (8-17, PL 2-9) drops its fourth straight game.
Other Mountain Hawks in double figures were Kyle Neptune and Mitch Gilfillan with 12 points apiece. Junior guard Jon Simon was Colgate’s leading scorer with 20 points, while Kyle Roemer tallied 14 points. Alvin Reed had nine points for Colgate and equaled his career-high with eight assists.
Lehigh shot 50 percent from the field making 22-of-44 shots, while the Raiders managed only 35.7 percent. Colgate tallied a season-high 12 3-pointers in the contest making 12-of-33 attempts.
After Lehigh took a 4-0 lead, Colgate scored 11 straight points to go ahead by seven points. Simon scored eight points in the run, after Roemer hit a 3-pointer. The Mountain Hawks answered back with an 11-2 run to lead 15-13 with 9:45 remaining.
Colgate scored the next six points for a four-point advantage which would be the biggest they enjoyed the remainder of the game. Trailing 23-21, the Raiders scored on baskets by Kendall and Kyle Chones for their last lead of the contest, 26-23. Lehigh led at halftime, 27-26. There were eight lead changes in the first half.
Lehigh put the contest away when it opened the second half with 12 straight points for a 13-point advantage. Colgate, which made seven 3-pointers in the second half, was able to cut the deficit to five points on three occasions with the last coming with 3:55 left.
