WASHINGTON, D.C. (2/12/06) – Andre Ingram scored a game-high 19 points to lead American University to a 72-64 win over Colgate Sunday in a Patriot League game Bender Arena.
American (8-15, PL 4-6) snaps a two-game losing streak, while Colgate (8-16, PL 2-8) goes down to its third straight loss. The Eagles’ victory gives them a sweep of their home-and-home series with the Raiders.
Derrick Mercer added 14 points for AU, while Brayden Billbe, Paulius Joneliunas and Arvydas Eitutavicius tallied eight points apiece.
Colgate had four players in double figures paced by senior guard Alvin Reed with 14 points. Reed also had six assists to give him 300 in his career. Other top scorers were Kendall Chones and Kyle Roemer with 12 points each, and Jon Simon with 11 points.
American out-rebounded the Raiders 38-27 led by Joneliunas with eight and Billbe and Linas Lekavicius with seven apiece. Colgate’s top rebounder was Marc Daniels with seven, while Kendall Chones had six.
America jumped out to an early 10-2 lead behind Billbe’s four points, and 3-point field goals by Ingram and Mercer. The Eagles were able to extend their advantage to nine points on a couple of occasions before Colgate rallied for a 27-26 lead when Kendall Chones made a jumper with 4:18 left.
With the score tied 30-30 with 1:41 remaining in the opening half, AU outscored the Raiders 7-2 for a 37-32 halftime lead.
In the second half, the closest Colgate would come was a one-point deficit, 48-47, with 11:24 remaining. The Eagles scored the next six points to take control of the contest.
