Boxscore

HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/10/06) - The No. 3 St. Lawrence Saints scored three goals within 5:50 of the second stanza to defeat Colgate, 4-1 on Friday, Feb. 10. The Saints' power-play goal at 12:35 gave them the offensive momentum to score two more in the second and add another in the third, before Colgate was able to dash the St. Lawrence hopes of avenging a 3-0 shut out from just three weeks ago.

After a scoreless first period, the Saints opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 12:35. Kerri Wallace squashed a Colgate attempt to clear the puck when she stretched to grab it at the blue line. Wallace sent a cross-ice pass to Annie Guay at the high slot, who sent a slap shot that Marianna Locke was able to redirect as she stood just outside the paint and sent it between the pads of Brook Wheeler (Brussels, Ont.).

Guay made it 2-0 St. Lawrence with help from Lisa Batchelor and Emily Berlinguette at 16:04. Guay carried the puck in to the zone along the left boards, wheeled her defender, and beat Wheeler with a low shot stick side.

Batchelor put the Saints up 3-0 with an unassisted marker at 18:25. Batchelor intercepted a Colgate defense-to-defense pass on her way into the Raider defensive zone and was able to break away completely, beating the stick of Wheeler with another low shot.

The Saints added some insurance just 54 seconds into the final frame, as Berlinguette scored with help from Crystal Connors and Kate Michael. Connors picked up a Michael pass just to the right of the goal and sent a pass through traffic to Berlinguette who sent the puck to the upper left corner where it hit the inside of the post.

Colgate was able to dash the St. Lawrence hopes of a shut out with a goal from leading scorer, freshman Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) at 8:37. Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.) won a battle in the Colgate defensive zone and sent the puck to Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.). Todd skated it out of the zone and sent a perfect pass through the neutral zone to Hunt who was streaking up the center. Hunt deked netminder Meaghan Guckian and sent one past her pads.

Wheeler had her fourth straight 30+ save appearance for Colgate, stopping 38 shots on net. Guckian turned away 25 for St. Lawrence.

The Raiders host No. 8/9 Clarkson tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. The Golden Knights came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Cornell earlier this evening.
