AMES, Iowa (12/28/2006)—Iowa State’s Nicky Wieben scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Cyclones to a 90-53 victory over Colgate University in women’s basketball action at Hilton Coliseum this evening. Colgate freshman

Caitlin Gillard (Vestal, N.Y.) led the Raiders with 12 points apiece.
Colgate falls to 1-11 overall, while Iowa State improves to 10-1 on the season with the win.
Both teams started the game cold, making just a combined three field goals in the opening five minutes. The Raiders and Cyclones were just 3-of-16 from the floor at the 15-minute mark.
Junior
Molly Patterson (Euclid, Ohio) knocked down a three-pointer at 15:39 to put Colgate ahead 5-3, but it was Iowa State responding with a 10-0 run over the next 3:39 to open up the game with a 13-5 advantage.
The Cyclones put together another double-digit run midway through the half, outscoring Colgate 16-0 over six minutes. The Raiders were able to answer with a mini 7-1 run in the final minutes to cut the lead to 41-25 at the break.
Lyndsey Medders paced the Cyclones in the final six minutes, scoring the team’s final nine points of the half and finishing with 14 in the opening 20 minutes. She closed the game out with 17 points.
Iowa State opened the second frame with a trifecta and never let the Raiders within 17 points, cruising to the 37-point victory.
Colgate got strong performances from rookies, Garman and
TaHara Williams (Mason, Ohio). Garman hit a career-high four three-pointers and picked up three rebounds. Williams added seven points and dished out a career-high six assists in 30 minutes of action. Sophomore
Gretchen Polinski (Mansfield, Ohio) added seven points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for the Raiders.
Iowa State’s Toccara Ross added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Cyclones, while Alison Lacey had six points and a game-high seven assists.
The Raiders return to action in the first day of the Cyclone Classic against Loyola Marymount at 5 p.m., central time at Hilton Coliseum.
