ANNAPOLIS, Md. (11/04/2006)—Colgate University sophomore
Beverly Walker (Marietta, Ga.) grabbed a pair of individual victories and two runners-up awards as the Raiders’ women’s swimming and diving team competed against Navy and Lehigh. Colgate defeated Lehigh 200-99 but fell to the Midshipmen by a score of 186-109.
Walker got her first victory over the day in the 100-meter backstroke, touching in at 1:05.52, nearly a second ahead of the runner-up from Navy. She came right back and added a top finish in the 200 backstroke, edging Navy’s Jennie Spencer by .09 of a second in 2:22.70.
The second-year swimmer took second place in the 100 fly, hitting the wall in 1:05.55. Mallory Dietrich of Navy won the race convincingly with a time of 1:02.77. Walker rounded out her afternoon as a member of the runner-up 200-meter medley relay team.
Emily Murphy also helped the 400 free relay squad of Bottger,
Kate Murphy, and
Lisa Marchi (Scottsdale, Ariz.) to the top spot with a winning time of 3:55.89, nearly 10 seconds faster than second place Colgate “B” relay.
Emily Murphy also added an individual runner-up performance in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:14.01, just .22 faster than Lehigh’s Melanie Rolish.
Marchi added a pair of third-place finishes for the Raiders in the 100-meter freestyle and 200 free races. She turned in a time of 59.15 for the 100 free and went 2:07.26 in the 200.
Kate Murphy and Fitzsimons went third and fourth in the 400 free race, touching the wall in 4:33.09 and 4:37.36, respectively. Kate also added a runner-up finish in the 200 fly, completing the race in 2:24.56.
In the 200 breaststroke it was
Alaina Sullivan (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and
Caitie Curran (Alpharetta, Ga.) bringing in a third and fourth-place finish for Colgate. The finished less than a second apart, going 2:44.88 and 2:45.44, respectively.
Curran had another third-place showing in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:31.96, while junior
Colby Seamans (Naperville, Ill.) clocked in at 2:28.56 to take second behind Lehigh’s Rolish.
Colgate’s
Gretchen Swarr (Southport, Conn.) led the divers, finishing fourth on both the 1 and 3-meter boards with respective scores of 207.50 and 212.40.
The Raiders return to the pool on Nov. 5, at UMBC at 11 a.m.
