Daniel Waddy (Tucson, AZ) scored a career-high 27 points, and added five rebounds and six assists to lead Colgate to an 80-71 win over Quinnipiac Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Cotterell Court.
Colgate (3-2) wins back-to-back games for the first time since early last season when they defeated Dartmouth and Princeton. Quinnipiac falls to 2-3 with its second straight setback.
Jon Simon (Phoenix, AZ) had 18 points and a team-high six rebounds, while
Tim Pounds (Dudley, NC) added a career-high 10 points for the Raiders. Quinnipiac was led by Van Crafton and Adam Gonzalez with 12 points apiece, while Karl Anderson added 10 points.
Colgate had its best shooting performance of the season making 56 percent of its field goals, including 63 percent in the second half. The Raiders were 6-of-11 from 3-point range (54 percent) and made 20-of-25 from the charity stripe (80 percent).
With the score tied at nine apiece, Simon hit a 3-pointer to put the Raiders ahead for good. His basket was the start of a 14-8 run that gave Colgate a 23-15 lead with 7:43 remaining in the first half.
Peter Minchella (West Lafayette, IN) had six straight points during the run for the Raiders.
Later in the first half, Colgate was able to extend its advantage to 10 points twice, before settling for a 36-27 halftime lead.
The start of the second half was all Colgate as the Raiders opened with a 25-11 run moving ahead by 23 points with 8:01 remaining. Most of the damage was done by Simon with eight points and Waddy with five.
With Colgate leading by 22 points, Quinnipiac scored 11 straight points to cut the advantage in half with 3:29 left. The Bobcats were able to move to within eight points twice but the Raiders made 11 of their last 13 points from the free throw line to seal the victory.

Willie Morse (State College, PA) out with an injury suffered in the Binghamton game. He is day-to-day … Minchella’s six points equaled his career high. It is the third time he has scored six points in a game … Waddy was 6-of-9 from the field and 13-of-14 from the charity stripe … the Colgate-Quinnipiac series is tied at one apiece.
