Colgate Football Closes Out 2006 Season At Bucknell

Mike Saraceno looking to move into seventh place in career passing.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/16/06) - The Colgate University football team (4-6, PL 3-2) closes out its season on Saturday traveling to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to face the Bucknell Bison (5-5, PL 2-3).  Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

The game can be heard on WKXZ Radio (93.4 FM & 99.3 FM) and through the facilities of TeamLine.

This will be the final game for 15 Colgate seniors who have compiled an overall record of 34-15 including two Patriot League championships and one trip to the NCAA Division I-AA title game in 2003.

The Raiders have plenty of incentive heading into the season finale.  Not only do they have a chance to finish in a three-way tie for second place in the Patriot League standings, but the Raiders remember their last visit to Bucknell.  The Bison embarrassed Colgate 42-7.

A Colgate victory on Saturday, coupled with a Lehigh win over Lafayette, would give the Raiders a tie for second place with Holy Cross and Lafayette.

Colgate gained some momentum heading into Saturday’s game scoring 14 fourth quarter points to edge Holy Cross, 29-28.  Bucknell was idle last Saturday.  The Bison dropped a 27-10 decision to the Crusaders in their last outing on Nov. 4.

This is the 55th meeting between Colgate and Bucknell with the Raiders leading the series, 39-15.  The Raiders have won five of the last six meetings in the series.  Colgate is 16-7 all-time on Bucknell's home turf.  Last year, Colgate edged Bucknell 16-10 at Andy Kerr Stadium.

Sophomore tailback Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD) is Colgate’s leading rusher averaging 105.0 yards per game.  Last Saturday, he rushed for 154 yards against the Crusaders to become the third player in school history to post back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons joining Kenny Gamble (1985, 1986 and 1987) and Jamaal Branch (2003 and 2004).

Senior quarterback Mike Saraceno (Sunrise, Fla.) will be looking for a milestone in his final game.  The Florida native needs to pass for 112 yards to finish seventh all-time in career passing yardage.  He has thrown for 4,043 yards entering Saturday’s game.

On the defensive side, junior linebacker Mike Gallihugh (Midlothian, VA) is the leading tackle in Division I-AA football averaging 12.6 tackles per game.  He was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season for his performance in the Holy Cross game.
