Hartwick Upsets Colgate 2-0 in Men’s Soccer

ONEONTA, N.Y. (10/3/06) – The Hartwick Hawks surprised the Colgate men’s soccer team in a 2-0 upset on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the National Soccer Hall of Fame soccer field.

It was the Raiders’ first loss of the season, as they stand at 6-1-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the Patriot League.

Hartwick (5-6-2) has eluded Colgate in men’s soccer, as the Hawks owns a 36-5-2 record in the all-time series and have won the past four meetings.

Hartwick got on the board early when its leading scorer Chris Jackson scored on the first shot of the game at 18:36.  Craig Potter sent a cross in from the right side to Jackson, who beat his defender and rifled a shot to the corner pocket.

Adam Mitchinson helped give Hartwick the 2-0 lead, when he sent a long ball from just across midfield into the box to Tyler Hemming.  Hemming picked up the ball and lofted it over keeper Doug Litvack (Levittown, N.Y.) at 57:20.

The Hawks’ defense held the Raiders to just three shots, none of which were on goal, as Joe Gibson earned the win in net.  Hartwick had 10 shots in the contest, and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Litvack made three saves and allowed two before being replaced by freshman Matt Barton (San Mateo, Calif.).  Barton played the final 7:49 and did not face a shot.

Colgate will face Navy in Annapolis on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
